Howers Campground sits on the northeast shore of Deadwood Reservoir in western Idaho, framed by mixed-growth pine that throws good shade across the small site and a sweep of summer wildflowers along the shore. There are 10 total campsites, and all 10 are configured to take both RVs and tents, so the loop works for a few tow-behind trailers as well as traditional tent parties. This is a primitive facility: you'll find vault toilets and a potable water source but no hookups or electricity, and roads and parking spurs inside the campground are dirt, so high-clearance vehicles are a plus in wet weather. Sites open directly onto the shoreline, giving easy access to the water, and the campground's remote location keeps traffic light; note there is a $5 fee for vehicles entering the campground for day use. Reservation and seasonal details aren't listed here, so check with the Boise National Forest office before you go for current access, road conditions, and camping rules. The reservoir is the focal point for activities: fishing for Atlantic, Chinook and Kokanee salmon as well as rainbow and cutthroat trout is a primary draw, and the quiet, lightly visited water makes for productive angling. Boating, water skiing, canoeing and kayaking are popular a boat ramp is located about two miles away at Cozy Cove Campground and several trails around the lake support hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and off-road vehicle use. Wildlife viewing and swimming are also common in the area. To reach Howers from Boise, follow Highway 55 north toward Lowman and continue over Banner Summit before turning onto a forest road that leads to the reservoir's northeast shore; the drive feels rural and remote, reflective of the campground itself.
