“Good spot for camping. Loved having the river and hot springs close. Vault toilet was out of toilet paper and very full when we arrived so it was good we brought our own.”

Pine Flats Campground sits at about 3,700 feet on the Banks-Lowman Highway a few miles west of Lowman, Idaho, with the South Fork Payette River running just below the site. The campground has 26 campsites that accommodate both RVs and tents, arranged as a combination of single and double-family sites; most sites include a picnic table and a campfire ring with grill. Roads and parking spurs are paved and some campsite pads are paved as well, and vault toilets, drinking water and trash collection are provided. Many of the sites are accessible. There is a $5 vehicle day-use fee to enter the campground; for up-to-date information on seasonal openings, reservations and other regulations the Boise National Forest office or the official recreation reservation system should be consulted before you go. The river is the campground's main attraction: the South Fork Payette drops down a small hill beside the site and is a place for trout fishing, rafting and kayaking, with the Danskin River access roughly 5 miles to the west for additional put-in points. A short 1/4-mile nature trail begins in the campground and leads down to a natural hot springs soaking pool on the riverside, and several other hot springs pools lie along the Wildlife Canyon Scenic Byway (the Banks-Lowman Highway). Towering Ponderosa pines shade the sites, summer wildflowers color the clearings, and deer and elk are commonly seen moving through the trees. Beyond the immediate campground, Boise National Forest offers a wide range of outdoor opportunities hiking, fishing, boating, biking, horseback riding, OHV use, winter sports and wildlife viewing and local outfitters provide guided whitewater trips on the Payette for those who prefer a guided float.
