“The camp hosts were amazing! They checked on everyone, and responded to any concerns we had. We had plenty of shade, and it was a blast. Saw lots of ground squirrels and a couple deer. I would reccomend this campsite to my friends. ”
“Camp hosts are friendly, restrooms were kept clean and the camping spot was in great condition when we arrived.”

Helende Campground sits at about 4,100 feet on Highway 21 roughly 10 miles east of Lowman, an easy drive up the Banks Lowman corridor from the Boise area. The South Fork Payette River runs a few hundred yards below the road, so river sounds and quick access to trout fishing, kayaking and whitewater rafting are part of the setting; the Deadwood and Danskin river access points are also close by. Less than five miles to the west, Kirkham Hot Springs offers a series of riverside soaking pools reached by a stair-stepped trail, and the nearby Kirkham Ridge Trail begins near Kirkham Campground and runs some 35 miles through varied country open to hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders, with seasonal vehicle access on certain sections. The site is shaded by lodgepole and Ponderosa pine, punctuated with summer wildflowers, and you may spot deer and elk moving through the trees. The campground has 10 single-family campsites in total; each site is set up to accommodate both RVs and tents and the facility notes that all sites are accessible. Every campsite includes a picnic table and a campfire ring with a grill, and the campground provides vault toilets, drinking water and trash collection. There is a $5 fee for vehicles entering the campground for day use; specific reservation or seasonal closure information isn't included here, so check with the Lowman Ranger District before you go for current policies and road conditions. Beyond the immediate river and trail opportunities, the Banks Lowman Highway (also called the Wildlife Canyon and Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byways) threads a corridor of additional hot springs, wildlife viewing and trailheads that make Helende a compact base for fishing, boating, biking, hiking, horseback riding and other forest activities.
