“It was quiet and the water sounds were nice, but if spot 4 was supposed to be water access either bring a jug of water or a chainsaw because there was no chance if water access.”
“Nice small campground; spot 4 is nicely situated far enough away from the road. There was a water spigot, but I wasn't able to get any water from it, so be sure to bring enough water”

Bad Bear Campground sits at about 5,100 feet in a stand of Ponderosa pine along Highway 21, roughly 48 miles northeast of Boise and about 11 miles north of historic Idaho City. Mores Creek runs alongside the site, and anglers will find whitefish and rainbow trout in the creek within easy reach of campsites; summer brings an array of wildflowers and regular wildlife sightings. The campground is located on the Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byway, a route that follows Mores Creek toward Mores Creek Summit, Gold Fork and Banner Ridge, so you can expect frequent roadside views of the surrounding mountains as you arrive and depart. Because the loop sits close to the highway, some traffic noise is to be expected; the camping area itself is an open site with pockets of shade from mature pines. The campground contains 6 sites total; all 6 are set up to accommodate both RVs and tents, and each site can accommodate up to 6 people. Sites include a picnic table and a fire ring, parking spurs are paved, and vault toilets are provided, but there is no trash service, so plan to pack out your garbage. Nearby trail networks offer hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and ATV access, and in winter the area is used by backcountry skiers and snowmobilers; more broadly, Boise National Forest supports activities such as biking, boating, camping, fire lookouts/cabins overnight, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting, off-highway vehicle use, picnicking, swimming, wildlife viewing and winter sports. The campground's short access from Idaho City (turn off Highway 21 near milepost 48, just beyond Ten Mile Campground) makes the Idaho City Ranger Station the best local contact for current information on fees, reservations and seasonal openings, since those specifics aren't listed here.
