“It’s a smaller campground with sites not on top of one another, nice shade from trees, trails to the river. The only issue was the pump for water was broken.”
“It was great but I did get stung by bees in space 5. There must be a hive around. They were very aggressive.”
“It was a nice campground with a swimming spot. The fire pit hadn’t been emptied in a while and was overflowing with ash so it wasn’t safe to use for a fire. Other than that it was pretty nice. ”

Black Rock sits along the North Fork Boise River at about 4,300 feet, roughly a 20-mile drive from Idaho City via State Highway 21 and Forest Road No. 327. Ponderosa pines rise above the campsites and the river runs close enough that fishing and swimming are the day's most obvious draws anglers will find rainbow trout in the North Fork and several swimming holes within a short walk. The immediate area is threaded with singletrack and doubletrack that attract hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders and dirt-bike users, so expect a mix of day users and multi-use traffic on nearby routes. With only 11 sites in the campground, the experience is small-scale; sites provide partial shade and proximity to neighbors rather than seclusion, and wildlife sightings are common around the river corridor. Each of the 11 sites is configured for both tents and RVs and comes with a picnic table and a campfire ring; a few sites also include grills. The campground offers drinking water and vault toilets, but roads and parking spurs are dirt and there is no garbage collection on site, so plan to pack out refuse. Specifics on fees, reservations and seasonal openings are not provided here check current conditions and any permit requirements with Boise National Forest before you go. Because access involves 18 miles on Forest Road No. 327, verify road conditions (especially after storms or in shoulder seasons) so you know what vehicle is appropriate for the trip.
