Katherine S ★ 5 · Sep 2025Well cared for. Rules are easy to understand. Hot springs are nearby.
Annette B ★ 1 · Jul 2022Space was extremely misrepresented. It’s not nearly big enough for 5 RV’s. Camp hosts were nice, but told me that since I made the reservation I was responsible for making sure everyone follows the rules. Leash tickets for the group would be mine even though I didn’t even have a dog. So I’m supposed to play hall monitor to my friends just because I made the reservation? Left after one day, but cannot connect with the “manager” to get a refund. He gave unclear instructions on how to request a refund. I reached out for additional help, but we’ve been playing phone tag and I’ve requested he text me the email address. Does not respond with text- will only returns my calls when I am unavailable. It’s the 21st century and he calls from an i-phone- texting an email address is a reasonable request which should be easy to do. Would not recommend this campground or any campground under this management.

Hot Springs Campground sits at about 3,169 feet on the Banks-Lowman Highway just east of Garden Valley, Idaho, with the South Fork Payette River running across the road. The river is the day-use magnet here anglers, kayakers and whitewater rafters launch from points nearby, and several outfitters in the valley run half- and full-day trips on the South Fork and Main Payette. A concrete staircase leads down from the highway to a natural hot springs soaking pool at the river's edge, and additional springs and small pools dot the Wildlife Canyon Scenic Byway that follows the road. The campsite itself occupies the toe of a forested hillside where scattered Ponderosa pines give partial shade and summer wildflowers edge the campsites; because the highway runs alongside the site, expect intermittent vehicle noise. There are three accessible group sites in the campground (TOTAL CAMPSITES: 3), each configured to accommodate both RVs and tents; Sites 1 and 2 can hold up to 200 people apiece while Site 3 is sized for up to 50 people. Each site includes picnic and serving tables, grills, campfire circles with benches, vault toilets, drinking water and trash collection. Fees are posted per group: Group Site 1 & 2 (up to 200 people) are charged 1 100 people = $106.48 and 101 200 people = $212.96; Group Site 3 (up to 50 people) = $106.48. Access is by the Banks-Lowman Highway (approximately 35 miles north of Boise on State Highway 55, then 17 miles east on the Banks-Lowman), and because seasonal openings, reservations and current conditions can change, check with Boise National Forest or the local ranger district before you go for reservation options and availability. Beyond soaking and river sports, the broader forest offers hiking, wildlife viewing, horseback riding and other outdoor activities.
