“It was a beautiful campsite, the river was gorgeous, we had a momma moose and baby come thru a couple of times. Our camp hosts were the best.”
“nice quiet campground near the Big Wood River. Close to Ketchum, Idaho and Sun Valley. Beautiful scenery driving around the mountains”
“The campground was very clean and the hosts were friendly and helpful. Site 1 had a private, shaded nook for our tent that was perfect.”

HWY 75 8 MILES NORTH OF KETCHUM
Open in Google Maps ↗
Perched at about 6,300 feet on the west side of Highway 75 roughly eight miles north of Ketchum, North Fork Campground sits directly on the banks of the Big Wood River and offers 28 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents. The campground's layout favors family groups, with several family sites available and some spots offered on a first-come, first-served basis; there are no details here about online reservations, so check current policies before you go. Basic amenities include vault toilets, potable drinking water, and a host who sells firewood; roads and individual parking spurs are gravel. If you need RV services, an RV dump station and additional drinking water are located about a half mile away at the Sawtooth National Recreation Area Visitor Center, which also has a small museum and bookstore for maps and up-to-date area information. Recreation centers on the river and the 20-mile Harriman Trail that passes the campground: fly-fishing for rainbow, brown and brook trout is common on the Big Wood, and float tubing is a popular way to spend an afternoon. The Harriman Trail provides a straightforward route for hiking and biking, with spur trails leading into deep canyons, to alpine lakes, swimming holes and high-country fishing spots; wildlife viewing and picnicking are easy from camp among the aspen stands and scattered pines. Willows and grasses line the riverbank and summer brings abundant wildflowers; average summer highs are near 78°F with nights cooling to about 40°F. For extra amenities and a different kind of soak, Easley Hot Springs is six miles north and offers a pool, hot tubs, showers and a small store, and nearby Ketchum stages community events such as Wagon Days in September. Broadly speaking, the Sawtooth National Forest supports a wide range of activities biking, boating, horseback riding, OHV use, winter sports and more but at North Fork the immediate draws are camping, fishing, river recreation, trail access and easy proximity to visitor services.
