Loved the campsite, it is well maintained and my group had a great time over 3 days. The only complaint I have is that there is a trail that connects site 1 and site 2–I was staying at site 1, and the campers in site 2 kept walking through our space. I specifically reserve group campsites because we appreciate our privacy. I know that this is a matter of camping etiquette but if the trail wasn’t there, probably people would not think it’s ok to invade the privacy of others.

About

Middle Meadows Campground sits deep in Eldorado National Forest along the South Fork of Long Canyon Creek, surrounded by stands of cedar, pine and fir that give the area a quiet, wooded character. The developed area is small and deliberately simple there are just two group campsites in the campground, one sized for about 25 people and the other for about 50. Both sites are described for RV and tent use but are configured as walk-in group sites, so expect a more primitive, communal setup rather than individual paved pads or hookups. The creek runs right by the campground, which makes it convenient for fishing and wading, and a popular swimming hole lies roughly a quarter mile west of the group sites. Hell Hole Reservoir is less than five miles away to the north, where a boat ramp supports boating and reservoir fishing; birding and general wildlife viewing are common around the water and in the surrounding forest. Facilities are basic but practical: each group site has picnic tables, a campfire circle and a grill, with vault and portable toilets nearby; bear-proof food containers and garbage receptacles are supplied at every site. Important: potable water is currently not available at Middle Meadows due to contamination, so you must bring your own drinking water, sturdy containers or a reliable filter; potable water can be found at Big Meadows Campground about 2.5 miles northeast. The campground's remote location means limited services and a primitive feel plan accordingly for vehicle access on Forest Highway 2 (the 11 Pines Road route off Highway 193 from the Georgetown/Cool corridor northeast of Sacramento) and check the U.S. Forest Service for current fees, reservation rules and seasonal closures before you go.
