“Camp sites were trash free, enjoyable. Camp host(s) was very sweet and welcoming. Would come back.”
“They drained half the reservoir and they never mentioned that on the app ”
“Spot 034 is very small if you are camping with more than a few people it will be a squeeze. Also there is only room for one vehicle with a trailer or two cars only for parking for site 034. ”

Lewis Campground sits on the north shore of French Meadows Reservoir in Tahoe National Forest, surrounded by a coniferous forest and overlooking waters on the Middle Fork of the American River. The site is part of the French Meadows Recreation Area and serves as a western gateway to the Granite Chief Wilderness. There are 33 single-family campsites in total; all 33 sites accommodate both tents and RVs, and a few are designated accessible. Each site comes with a picnic table and a metal grill, and the campground provides both flush and vault toilets plus drinking water. Roads through the campground and the individual parking spurs are paved, making arrivals and overnight stays easier for mixed groups of tent campers and people towing small trailers or driving camper vans. Recreation at Lewis is water-oriented and trail-rich: French Meadows Reservoir supports boating, canoeing, fishing and swimming, and the McGuire boat ramp is within about a mile of the campground. The Middle Fork American River is also nearby for fishing and swimming, while a network of trails including the Western States Trail, the Tevis Cup route and access to the Granite Chief Wilderness at Talbot Trailhead provides options for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and singletrack motorcycle routes. Nearby points of interest in the broader recreation area include Duncan Canyon, Duncan Peak Lookout, Robinson Flat historic ranger station, the Placer County Big Tree Grove Botanical Area and Grouse Falls Scenic Area. Note the access considerations: Mosquito Ridge Road outside Foresthill is closed, and as of June 2023 the recommended route for low-clearance vehicles, rigs with trailers, and motorhomes is via Georgetown (Wentworth Springs Road to Eleven Pines Road); high-clearance, four-wheel-drive vehicles may approach from Foresthill Road to Robinson Flat/Mosquito Ridge (snow permitting). It's wise to check current road conditions, seasonal openings, fees and reservation policies with Tahoe National Forest or the managing recreation reservation service before you go.
