What guests say

Verbatim from guest reviews on Recreation.gov ↗ (7 reviews, ★ 4.0). Not written or edited by us.

“Everything was good. Enough area for 25 people and cozy spot and clean. Just need earplugs for night time to sleep because of high way sound. Beautiful location.”

About

Big Bend Group Campground sits at about 5,700 feet on the gentle banks of the South Yuba River, roughly 19 miles west of Truckee in Tahoe National Forest. The site is shaded by stands of pine and fir and lies just behind and across the river from the Big Bend Fire Station, which provides a convenient landmark and sense of stewardship; the campground itself is operated and maintained by Forest Service staff. There are exactly 2 group sites Victory (the first site) and Lincoln (the second, at the end) and both are designated as accessible and set up to accommodate RVs and tents. Each site can hold up to 25 people and five vehicles, and comes equipped with picnic tables, grills, large campfire rings, vault toilets and drinking water; there is no mention of hookups or showers, so plan accordingly and bring what you need for cooking and sanitation. The South Yuba River at Big Bend invites swimming and rainbow trout fishing, and several historic and recreational trails are nearby, including sections of the California Emigrant Trail and the Loch Leven Trail; the surrounding forest also has networks of hiking, biking and off-highway vehicle routes. If you're heading farther afield, historic Route 40/Lincoln Highway runs east to Donner Lake (about 15 miles) and sights such as China Wall, Rainbow Bridge, Sugar Bowl, Lake Van Norden and Ice Lakes. Practical details to note: site specifics and reservations are handled through Recreation.gov (the mailing address shown there is for mail only, not the campground), and the Forest Service enforces a no-show policy where recorded, a no-show is assessed a $20.00 fee and forfeits the first night's recreation fee; there is no change fee for date adjustments that include the original reservation dates, but departing early may forfeit some or all fees and price differences apply if you change to a campsite of different cost.
