“Large sites, cool swimming hole, but road noise on site #4 is unbearable. So loud that you have to raise your voice to speak to someone beside you. Difficult for tent sleeping. RV/van is ok.”
“Perfect spot to spend a long weekend. Great camp host, clean sites and bathrooms. Some spots are great for RV and all are great for tents. Rocks and water were fun even into September! This is our go to spot for camping with kids and dogs. ”

YUBA RIVER RANGER STATION

Indian Springs Campground sits on the north bank of the South Yuba River in Tahoe National Forest at about 5,600 feet, shaded by mature cedar and pine that keep campsites cool in summer. The campground has 34 total campsites: 27 sites configured for both RVs and tents and 7 tent-only sites, with a few of those tent sites set up as walk-to spots for lighter-footprint camping. Every campsite includes a picnic table and a metal campfire ring; vault toilets, drinking water, and trash collection are provided. A well-used swimming hole sits alongside the river just steps from the loop, and anglers fish for rainbow trout in the South Yuba; the adjacent Indian Springs OHV Staging Area puts you directly into a network of off-highway vehicle routes, including the Fordyce 4x4 jeep trail, while nearby trails support hiking and mountain biking. For access, Indian Springs is reached from Interstate 80 via the Eagle Lakes Road exit (exit 164), a short drive north and west from the highway; it's about three miles west of Big Bend and roughly 23 miles west of Truckee, with Donner Lake another 19 miles east on I-80/Route 40. The campground sits close to the historic California Emigrant Trail and provides easy jumping-off points for other nearby trailheads and sights China Wall, Rainbow Bridge, Sugar Bowl, Loch Leven and Castle Peak are all within driving distance. Reservations and cancellations follow standard Forest Service rules: there is no change fee when changes include original reservation dates or when switching to a same-priced site, but customers are responsible for any price difference; leaving early may forfeit some or all recreation fees. A recorded no-show at staffed facilities results in a $20 no-show fee plus forfeiture of the first night's fee (or the entire day-use fee), so the forest recommends contacting the campground if you're delayed but still plan to arrive.
