“We camp at black oak site 3 couple years and this site 2 this year and we love the area. Clean and host is nice. Clean waters and bathroom. ”
“Definitely cannot accommodate 50 people. We barely had room for 6 tents and most of them were not on fully flat ground. You Must also drive to get to the lake. ”

Black Oak Campground is a group-focused site on the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada, sitting at about 4,400 feet and within easy walking distance of Stumpy Meadows Lake. The lake's clear water, a strict 5-mph speed limit, and regular rainbow trout stocking from May through August make it a quiet place for swimming, canoeing and kayaking as well as seasonal fishing. The broader Eldorado National Forest around Black Oak offers more than 400 miles of hiking trails and a mix of lakes and rivers for anglers and day visitors; birdwatchers and families looking to picnic along the shore are common here. Expect a Mediterranean-style climate: warm, dry summers and cold, wet winters, so summer is the prime season for lake activities and group gatherings. The campground itself contains four total campsites: one RV site and three tent-only sites, all designed to host groups rather than individual campers. The single RV site can hold up to 75 people, while the tent sites accommodate groups of 25 or 50; each site includes picnic and serving tables, grills and a campfire circle for communal meals and evening stories. Vault toilets are provided and there is a dump station on-site, but potable water or electrical hookups are not listed in the facility details. Reservations involve a recreation fee plus a non-refundable reservation service fee (currently $8 online, $9 via call center or $3 in person); modifications and late cancellations may carry additional service charges, and cancellations made less than 14 days before arrival incur a $10 service fee and forfeiture of the first night's use fee. Black Oak is reached from Georgetown by following Wentworth Springs Road northeast for roughly 17 miles to the Stumpy Meadows dam, with the campground a short distance beyond the lake an accessible spot for organized groups looking to combine basic campground amenities with lake-based recreation.
