“We have been camping at Sharp Creek campground for the last 4 years. It is the campground we just keep coming back to! It is very well maintained, peaceful and breathtakingly beautiful. The camp hosts have all been welcoming and engaging. They take great care of the place 🧡”
“Nice and quiet, clean, and bug spots. Plenty of room between your neighbors ”
“The spots are quite large, it is very nice and quiet. The bathrooms are well maintained. Also very close to fishing. I would totally recommend Sharp Creek. We can not wait till next year to return.”

Sharp Creek Campground sits at about 6,000 feet on the lower slopes of the Mogollon Rim, surrounded by a dense stand of ponderosa pine with the clear waters of Christopher Creek less than a mile away. The site mix is small and straightforward: 20 campsites in all, of which 17 accommodate both RVs and tents and 3 are tent-only, arranged across several loops. Each site has a picnic table, grill, campfire ring and lantern holder; many sites have some shade from the pines and are sized to give a comfortable spread between neighbors. This is a cool-country stop for escaping southern Arizona heat expect pine-needle scent, afternoon sun filtered through tall trunks, and easy access from Highway 260 (the campground sits on the south side of 260 about 23 miles northeast of Payson and roughly 1.5 miles east of the small community of Christopher Creek). For recreation, Sharp Creek is well placed for both short outings and longer wilderness days. Christopher Creek itself is a trout stream and is the closest fishing option; Woods Canyon and Willow Springs Lakes, about a 10-minute drive up on the rim, add boating and additional fishing opportunities. Hikers can reach the Highline National Recreational Trail via the 260 Trail about three miles east of the campground, and the broader Tonto National Forest supports auto touring, biking, horseback riding, climbing, wildlife viewing and swimming at nearby lakes. Some campsites are reservable while others are first-come; payment for first-come sites is handled at an on-site fee machine or by a mobile "scan & pay" app no cash is accepted so plan accordingly. For current conditions or facility-specific questions call (928) 474-7900 before you go.
