“Why have they cut the access to water at the group site , you go to the dump station and get water for your RV but can’t get the water from from sane system at the camp site ”

Woods Canyon Lake Group Area sits beside one of the Rim Lakes in north-central Arizona, just outside the small community of Forest Lakes and roughly 35 miles east of Payson along Highway 260. The campsite is set in a mixed stand of pine, fir, oak and aspen at about 7,000 feet, and trails near the water give quick access to the Rim Lakes Vista Trail and other paths that look out over the Mogollon Rim. Anglers come for trout fishing in both lake and stream waters (motorized boats are limited to electric motors), boaters and photographers will find changing light over the cliffs and water, and an easy loop trail around the lake plus paved roads through the recreation area make pleasant options for short hikes and bike rides. Forest Service rangers often lead educational programs on weekends, and the higher elevation tends to keep summer days comfortable although afternoon thunderstorms are common from late June through August and nights can be cool. The campground itself is a single group site that accommodates both RVs and tents; it's a primitive group area located very near the lake with vault toilets and a drinking water source on site. The facility is set up for large gatherings it comfortably fits about 70 people and can hold up to 100 but offers no developed hookups or luxury amenities, so plan on group-style camping. Woods Canyon Lake is one of several recreation opportunities within the two-million acres of Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, where visitors can access hiking, biking, horse camping and horseback riding, OHV routes, picnicking areas, fire lookouts/cabin overnight experiences, and abundant wildlife viewing (birds, squirrels, deer and elk are common; deer, skunks and bears frequent the campground).
