“Perfect time. Great park. Wonderful team running the place.”
“Campsites 9 & 10 were both shady & easy to get into for setup. The swim beach, playground, bathrooms and the camping sites were very clean. The ground hosts were really friendly and accommodating. We highly recommend this place for family relaxation ”

Big Coon Creek Campground sits along the bank of Gillham Lake, reachable a short drive east of the town of Gillham via Tower Road and Gillham Lake Road before turning onto Polk Road 474. The lake itself covers 1,370 surface acres with roughly 36 miles of shoreline and is fed by the Cossatot River, a National Wild and Scenic River that gives the area a mix of open water and wooded coves. The Corps of Engineers maintains the site and project staff are on hand to help campers with questions; for fees, reservations and seasonal information you should check the Corps' project office or website before you arrive. The campground offers a total of 32 campsites all 32 sites are laid out to accommodate both RVs and tents and each site includes water and 50-amp electric hookups; there are also hot showers, a dump station, a boat ramp, a swimming beach and a playground on the project grounds. Recreation at Big Coon Creek ranges from powerboating and water sports on the main lake to quieter river trips and fishing along the Cossatot. The campground's boat ramp gives straightforward lake access, and canoeists can paddle a roughly 16-mile stretch of river from below the dam to U.S. Highway 71 South, with shorter put-ins at Mize Crossing and Ladd Bridge. Anglers will find smallmouth, largemouth and spotted bass, saugeye, crappie, channel and flathead catfish and a variety of sunfish; fly fishing is popular where current and structure meet. Other on-site and nearby opportunities include camping, hiking, picnicking, playground use, water sports and wildlife viewing. Hunting is permitted in specified areas north of Little Coon Creek Park and on the lake's eastern shore check Arkansas Game and Fish for season dates and regulations before planning any hunt.
