“Lost Cabin Campground feels more secluded and the campsites are farther apart giving each campsite a more private feel. Campsite was clean along with the bathroom! Enjoy my stay both times I stayed there! Will be returning! ”
“We've camped here many times. Always a great experience.”

US HIGHWAY 16

Lost Cabin Campground sits on a lodgepole-pine covered hillside above Highway 16 on the east side of the Cloud Peak Skyway, roughly 27 29 miles west/southwest of Buffalo, Wyoming. The site offers 19 campsites that accommodate both RVs and tents, including one designated double site (Site #7) for larger groups. Each campsite comes with a picnic table and a campfire ring with grill; the campground provides accessible vault toilets, drinking water and trash collection, and the host sells firewood bundles on site. There are no on-site sewer hookups the nearest dump station is 12 miles away at Powder River Pass so RVers should plan accordingly. The campground is administered by Gallatin Canyon Campgrounds (gccampgrounds13@gmail.com); reservations and cancellations processed through recreation.gov are subject to a $10 cancellation processing fee retained by the reservation contractor (the reservation fee itself is non-refundable and cannot be returned by the campground concessionaire). Practical rules and fees are straightforward: a single site (1 8 people) covers one non-towed vehicle with trailer for $17.00 per night, while the double site (9 16 people) is $34.00 per night and includes two non-towed vehicles with trailers; an extra car (including what it tows) is charged $9.00 per day at the campground, and the information sheet notes a fourth car (maximum) may be free. Lost Cabin functions well as a base for a wide variety of activities in the Bighorn National Forest a short campground trail drops down to a scenic creek nearby, and scenic off-road driving (also open to hiking and mountain biking) is found on Elgin Park, Pole Creek and Crazy Woman Canyon Roads. Day trips bring you to Meadowlark Lake and Tie Hack Reservoir (about a 20-minute drive) for canoeing and fishing, a short hike to the historic High Park Lookout east of Meadowlark, and nearby South Fork Lodge for meals, lodging, guided horseback trips and supplies. The broader forest supports auto touring, hiking, fishing, horse camping and riding, OHV routes, winter sports and other backcountry options, making Lost Cabin a practical, low-amenity gateway to the Cloud Peak Wilderness and surrounding Bighorn country.
