“We stayed in mid-October on two weekdays. We were the only campers in the campground. Absolutely stunning with several lakefront sites. Toilets and sites were well maintained and clean. Cell signal was a steady two bars. ”
“They're fairly well kept up but most sites are way too close together! If I could get one of the end spots I would rate it Very Good. Tents are almost touching with the other campsites... Invite a friend if you you are concerned...”

Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area

Marcus Island Campground sits at the water's edge of Lake Roosevelt where the upper Columbia River's stony walls sculpted by ice age floods frame a pocket of evergreen forest. In summer the campground has shoreline on three sides, creating close, shady access to the lake; campers spread out on quiet bays for swimming, shore fishing, or launching small boats when water levels permit. The site is heavily shaded by mature evergreens, and the main access road is single-lane and winding, so getting there feels like leaving the highway behind; the campground itself is on the west side of Highway 25 a few miles north of Kettle Falls (reach the area by taking WA-395 north from Spokane to Kettle Falls, then Highway 25 north). The boat launch with parking sits just before the campground and provides the primary lake access when the reservoir is high, making Marcus Island popular with families, anglers, and small-boat users exploring this stretch of Lake Roosevelt and its historic surroundings St. Paul's Mission, Fort Colville, and the Hudson's Bay Company post are all within easy driving distance. Practical details matter here: Marcus Island is reservation-only with 25 sites in total 24 sites configured to accommodate both RVs and tents and one tent-only site and there are no first-come sites. Peak season runs May through September at $23 per night; off-peak (October through April) is half that, $11.50 per night. All reservations, changes, and cancellations are handled through recreation.gov; the campground is unstaffed, but the park's main office can be reached at (509) 754-7889 for general information. Note the cancellation rule: if you cancel the day before or on your arrival date you'll be charged a $10 service fee and forfeit the first night's use fee (up to the amount paid); a one-night reservation canceled on arrival day or the day before will forfeit the entire payment. Plan for limited road access and seasonal lake levels, and you'll find a small, shaded lakeside base for boating, fishing, hiking and swimming within the larger Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area.
