Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area
Open in Google Maps ↗
Evans Campground occupies a long, narrow stretch along the northeastern shoreline of Lake Roosevelt, with rocky walls carved by ice-age floods rising from the water and thick stands of ponderosa pine, Douglas fir and maple shading the campsites. The layout is deliberate: every one of the 44 individual campsites has a clear view of the lake, and 40 of those sites are configured to accommodate both RVs and tents while the remaining 4 are tent-only. Simple site amenities include picnic tables and fire pits at each site, a playground for children, and water access directly from the shore; seasonal drinking water is available, but no other utilities are guaranteed. A maintained boat launch at Evans is open year-round, so boating, fishing (walleye, bass, rainbow trout, salmon and sturgeon sturgeon fishing is allowed during a short, specified season), swimming and even water-skiing can start right from the campground, while hiking and ranger-led programs are part of the broader Lake Roosevelt experience. Practical details matter here: Evans is reservation-only through recreation.gov (no first-come sites), and sites can be reserved year-round, but note that sites are not plowed in winter so access may be limited in snowy conditions. Peak season runs May through September at $23 per night; off-peak (October through April) is priced at $11.50 per night. This location is unstaffed call the park's main office at (509) 754-7889 for general information and all changes or cancellations must be handled on recreation.gov. If you cancel the day before or on your arrival day you will pay a $10 service fee and forfeit the first night's use fee (not to exceed the total paid); one-night reservations cancelled on short notice forfeit the entire amount paid (no additional service fee). For history and local exploration, Kettle Falls and the historic St. Paul's Mission sit about 11 miles to the south, with other regional sites such as Fort Colville and the Hudson's Bay Company post a short drive away.
