Indian Crossing Campground sits in the high desert valley known as Browns Park on the banks of the Green River, right next to the day-use area of the historic John Jarvie Ranch. The developed site contains 21 campsites in total: 14 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and 7 tent-only sites; the campground also identifies one group campsite among its sites. Each campsite comes with a picnic table, fire ring and parking area, and the campground provides toilets and drinking water. This is a fee campground that operates strictly on a first-come, first-served basis you must be physically present to pay and occupy the site the same day (no advance payments or holds). To pay, use the recreation.gov app's Scan & Pay feature or leave cash or check in the on-site Iron Ranger. Roads in and out are remote: from Vernal the most straightforward approach follows Highway 191 north and then about 22 miles of gravel/paved road (including a 2-mile stretch with a 17% grade); an alternate Crouse Canyon route is narrow and not recommended for RVs, and from Maybell, CO you'll follow Highway 318 with roughly eight miles of gravel at the end. The Green River is the campground's main draw anglers find "blue ribbon" trout fishing along the river corridor from Flaming Gorge Dam down to the Colorado line, and several launch points for floats are nearby. River flows can change dramatically (commonly reported between about 830 and 4,500 cubic feet per second or higher), so check current streamflow before planning a trip; Utah law requires life jackets for boaters and they must be worn on the water. Commercial outfitters need permits, but private float trips from Flaming Gorge Dam to Ladore Canyon in Dinosaur National Monument don't require a permit. Fishing here is limited to artificial bait only: all fish between 13 and 20 inches must be released, and anglers may keep two fish under 13 inches plus one fish over 20 inches. Day-use facilities at the Jarvie site mirror the campground's basics picnic tables, fire rings, drinking water and restrooms and guided tours of the Jarvie property are available by calling ahead. For questions about conditions, regulations or to arrange a tour contact the BLM Vernal Field Office at 435-781-4400. Pets are allowed but must remain on leash.
