Granite Flat Campground sits just under a mile from Tibble Fork Reservoir on the north fork of American Fork Canyon, at roughly 6,400 feet amid dense stands of aspen, Douglas fir, spruce and pine and framed by rugged Wasatch peaks. The setting is oriented toward water and trails: Tibble Fork and nearby Silver Flat Reservoirs are within easy reach for canoeing and kayaking (both reservoirs allow only non-motorized watercraft) and are regularly fished for rainbow, brook and brown trout; a portion of Tibble Fork's north shore is accessible and scuba divers often use the south shore. Hikers and mountain bikers will find multiple trailheads in the area the 6-mile Tibble Fork Trail, 2-mile Pine Hollow, 3-mile Mill Canyon and the longer 15-mile Ridge Trail plus quick access a few miles down the canyon to the steep 1.5-mile Timpanogos Cave trail that leads to guided cave tours. Wildlife viewing and summer wildflowers are common, and the 20-mile Alpine Loop Scenic Byway runs a few miles away through high meadows and aspen groves (note: vehicles over 30 feet are not recommended on the byway). From Salt Lake City the drive is east on Highway 92 into American Fork Canyon and then up the North Fork toward Tibble Fork Reservoir; the campground lies a short paved mile beyond the reservoir turnoff. The campground itself holds 52 sites in total: 39 that accommodate both RVs and tents, 9 RV-only sites and 4 tent-only sites, arranged in named areas and loops Tree Army (Area A) has 23 sites, Spike Camp (Area B) 15 sites, Barracks (Area B) 7 sites, Mess Hall (Area B) 4 sites, plus three group sites. Granite Flat provides three group areas by name and fee: Handshaker and Stonemason (each $330; capacity 100 people) and Sandwagon ($375; capacity 125 people). Individual single sites are $29 (capacity 8 people + 1 vehicle), double sites $58 (capacity 16 people + 2 vehicles); day-use picnicking inside the campground is $15 and extra vehicles are $10 per vehicle per day. Roads and parking spurs are paved and most sites are accessible; each site includes a picnic table and campfire ring, vault toilets are provided, and on-site recreation includes horseshoe pits and a grassy baseball field. Reservations and changes are handled through Recreation.gov (reservation phone 1-877-444-6777) and facility-specific questions can be directed to (385) 273-1100; payment options include cash, check or Scan & Pay via the Recreation.gov app. Be aware of the reservation policies: a $10 service fee applies to most changes or cancellations, late cancellations typically forfeit the first night's fee, no-shows may be assessed a $20 fee in addition to forfeiting use fees, and refund requests must be submitted within 14 days after your scheduled departure.
