“wonderful hosts who keep outhouses clean and campsites.”
“Clean campground in a beautiful setting. Campground hosts are fantastic. Only drawback is the last two times I've been here, kids racing their motorcycles around the surrounding fire road in the evening really takes away from the peaceful setting.”

Timpooneke Campground sits high on the Alpine Loop Scenic Byway in the Wasatch Mountains, with the Mount Timpanogos Wilderness rising immediately to the west. At about 7,400 feet the campground is threaded with stands of aspen, fir and spruce; a beaver pond, a small stream and a riparian fringe run through the site and make for steady wildlife viewing and abundant summer wildflowers, while the aspen turn color in autumn. There are 30 campsites in all: 19 that accommodate both RVs and tents, seven equestrian-designated sites, and four glamping sites; the campground also includes a group site. Campsites are equipped with picnic tables, utility tables and campfire rings, equestrian sites each have a small horse corral, roads through the loop are paved with gravel parking spurs, and vault toilets and drinking water are available. Several sites are accessible. For hikers, the Timpooneke Trail begins in the campground and climbs to the summit of Mount Timpanogos (about a 15-mile round trip); the Aspen Grove Trail provides an alternate route to the summit and horses are allowed on Timpooneke Trail. The rough Timpooneke Road skirts the mountain and is popular with mountain bikers and birders, while the paved Alpine Loop itself threads alpine canyons, meadows and aspen groves offering wide mountain views from the car or campsite. The campground is a convenient base for a wide range of recreation across Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and wildlife viewing are immediate, and the broader area supports auto touring, fishing, non-motorized boating, and interpretive opportunities. Timpanogos Cave National Monument is just a few miles down American Fork Canyon and requires a steep 1.5-mile approach to reach the guided cave tours; Cascade Springs is about 9 miles away with family-friendly, accessible boardwalks; Tibble Fork and Silver Lake (Silver Flat) reservoirs nearby offer canoeing, kayaking and trout fishing (only non-motorized watercraft allowed; part of Tibble Fork's north shore is accessible and its south shore is popular with scuba divers). Practical details: fees may be paid by cash, check or the Recreation.gov "Scan & Pay" option current published rates list single sites at $29, double sites at $58, glamping sites at $111, and the group site at $149; day-use picnicking in a campground site is $15 and extra vehicles are $10 per day. Reservations, changes or cancellations are handled through Recreation.gov (or by calling 1-877-444-6777); a $10 service fee applies to most changes/cancellations, late cancellations typically forfeit the first night's fee, and no-shows can incur additional penalties. For facility-specific questions call (385) 273-1100.
