Hope Campground sits at about 6,500 feet on Squaw Peak Road just off Highway 189, a short drive from the mouth of Provo Canyon and within easy reach of Orem and Provo. The small, primitive site is shaded by maples, scrub oak and fir, which give pleasant summer cover and good fall color; facilities are basic but family-friendly, with picnic tables, metal grills and campfire rings at each site and vault toilets nearby. There are 23 reservable units in total: 21 single sites and 2 double sites, laid out as 17 sites suitable for both RVs and tents, five RV-only sites and one tent-only site. Single sites are $28 per night (capacity: up to 8 people and 1 vehicle), double sites are $58 (capacity: up to 16 people and 2 vehicles), day-use picnicking in the campground is $15, and extra vehicles are $10 per vehicle per day. Payments accepted on-site are cash, check, or Scan & Pay via the Recreation.gov app; make reservations or get facility-specific answers by calling (385) 273-1100 or through Recreation.gov (1-877-444-6777). Note that Hope is a primitive campground with no potable water on site bring all the water you'll need and reservation changes or cancellations generally incur a $10 service fee, with additional late-cancellation and no-show penalties that can include forfeiture of the first night's fee or a $20 service charge; refunds must be requested within 14 days of scheduled departure. The campground is a practical base for hiking and biking in the Provo Canyon area: both the Rock Canyon Trail and the Squaw Peak Trail begin nearby, and Squaw Peak Road itself is open to mountain biking. Within a short drive you can reach the paved Provo River Parkway and Vivian Park (about 6 miles up the canyon) for riverside picnicking and fishing, or visit Bridal Veil Falls for a quick photo stop. Longer day trips include the Aspen Grove Trailhead near Sundance on the Alpine Loop Scenic Byway the usual approach for the 14-mile round-trip hike to Mount Timpanogos' summit and Deer Creek State Park (roughly 30 minutes up Provo Canyon) for boating, fishing and swimming. The broader Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest around Hope supports a wide range of outdoor pursuits from auto touring and wildlife viewing to horseback riding, OHV use, interpretive programs and general backcountry camping, so campers looking for a simple, well-located site close to trailheads and valley services will find Hope a convenient, no-frills option.
