“The camp site was great. We stayed for 3 days and loved the trails and hikes. If it wasn't for the road leading in/out, this would be a perfect spot to go back to again and again.”

Rock Canyon Campground sits at about 6,500 feet on Squaw Peak Road, high above Utah Valley with dense stands of maple, scrub oak and fir that shade grassy meadows punctuated by wildflowers. The campground is the trailhead for the Rock Canyon Trail and is immediately adjacent to access for the Squaw Peak Trail to the summit, so hiking and mountain biking are the most immediate draws; Squaw Peak Road itself is open to mountain biking. The canyon is also a major climbing area, with hundreds of documented rock routes within easy reach of campsites, and a turnout just before the campground gives you a clear view down Rock Canyon and a thin slice of Utah Valley. For broader exploration you're in the Wasatch range between American Fork and Provo Canyons and within reach of the Mount Timpanogos Wilderness meadows, waterfalls, glacial cirques and a chance to see Rocky Mountain goats and other large mammals on higher trails. The site is primitive but set up for groups: there are four group campsites total, and each site accommodates both RVs and tents; three sites are listed at $104 per night (capacity 45 people) and one larger site at $194 per night (capacity 90 people). Sites include picnic tables and campfire rings, some have serving tables, roads and parking spurs are gravel, and vault toilets are provided; a host is located at nearby Hope Campground. Expect to pay extra-vehicle fees ($10 per vehicle) and to use cash, check, or the Scan & Pay feature in the Recreation.gov app for payment. Reservations and facility questions are handled through Recreation.gov (phone 1-877-444-6777) and for site-specific information you can call (385) 273-1100. Note the road in: from I-15 you travel east into Provo Canyon and then about 9.5 miles up Squaw Peak Road (the first ~5 miles are paved, the final ~4.5 miles are maintained dirt/gravel). Reservation policy highlights: a $10 service fee applies to most changes or cancellations, late cancellations and no-shows can forfeit the first night's use fee (and may face additional service fees), and refund requests must be submitted within 14 days of departure check Recreation.gov for full, up-to-date terms before you book.
