“Facilities are great, but price is high and you're right next to a fairly busy road. Overall a good time, but you might find a better value elsewhere!”

Theater in the Pines sits at about 7,600 feet on the Alpine Loop Scenic Byway in the Wasatch Mountains, framed by stands of pine, fir and quaking aspen. The site shares a border with the Mount Timpanogos Wilderness, so the mood here is mountain-first: summer wildflowers and active wildlife, and a vivid show of color in the fall. A historic stone amphitheater and a broad grassy field give the group site a communal feel musicians, speakers or large family gatherings can use that open space against a backdrop of surrounding peaks. For hikers the campground is unusually well placed: the Aspen Grove Trailhead is adjacent and climbs to the 14-mile round-trip summit route for Mount Timpanogos, while the 2-mile Stewart Falls Trail begins just above the amphitheater, making day hikes and longer summit outings equally convenient. The paved 20-mile Alpine Loop passes the campground and threads through alpine canyons, meadows and aspen groves, so auto touring and wildlife viewing are natural day activities from camp. Practically, Theater in the Pines is a single large group campsite (one site total) that accepts both RVs and tents and can host up to 150 people. The field is backed by a large gravel parking area; vault toilets and drinking water are provided on site. Overnight group site fees are $382.00 per night, with an extra-vehicle charge of $10.00; reservations and changes are handled through Recreation.gov (transactions appear on statements as "Recreation.gov 877-444-6777") or by calling their reservation line, and facility-specific questions can be directed to (385) 273-1100. Note the reservation policies: a $10 service fee applies to most changes or cancellations, and group facility reservations cancelled within 14 days of arrival will be charged the $10 fee and forfeit the first night's use fee; no-shows may incur further fees. Nearby attractions include Cascade Springs, Deer Creek and Tibble Fork reservoirs, and Timpanogos Cave National Monument, so campers who want water recreation or cave tours will find options a short drive from camp.
