Renegade Campground sits at about 7,700 feet on the shore of Strawberry Reservoir, where low, sagebrush-covered hills slope down to wide water and the distant ridgelines are dotted with stands of aspen and pine. The site has an open character: most campsites have sweeping water views but little or no shade, so days can be bright and evenings cool. The campground is a convenient base for water-based recreation on Strawberry boat launches, a marina and a sandy beach are available at the Renegade Day Use Area about a quarter mile below the campground so anglers and boaters will find easy access to rainbow and cutthroat trout and kokanee salmon fishing, water skiing, canoeing and swimming. Back on land, the Strawberry OHV Trail System offers roughly 75 miles of motorized routes that are also popular with mountain bikers and hikers, and nearby trails and the Strawberry Visitor Center (with interpretive displays, a fish trap and an egg collection station) provide additional options for wildlife viewing and short interpretive walks. Practical details are straightforward: Renegade contains 61 campsites in total, with 44 sites in Loop A and a Long Term loop of 17 sites. Site-type counts show 55 sites set up to accommodate both RVs and tents and 6 RV-only sites; the fee structure lists 53 single sites at $39 per night (capacity 8) and eight double sites at $77 per night (capacity 16). Camp fees include use of the boat launch and the dump station; extra vehicles are $10 each, day-use picnicking in a campground is $15 and parking is $10 per vehicle. Onsite amenities include flush toilets and drinking water, paved roads, picnic tables, fire rings and grills, a fish-cleaning station and garbage service, but there is no electricity, phone service or shower facilities. Reservations and changes are handled through Recreation.gov (charges appear on statements as "Recreation.gov 877-444-6777") or by calling 1-877-444-6777; a $10 service fee applies to most changes or cancellations, late cancellations may forfeit the first night's fee, and no-shows can be assessed additional penalties.
