David D ★ 3 · May 2022We actually didn't stay at the Pavillion. We were contacted 2 days before our trip and informed that the Pavillion didn't have bathrooms available yet, and so we opted to switch to the Campground and got 3 spots up there. The ranger was good to work with us. The Campground didn't have water available, but we figured it was better to have bathrooms as we can bring our own water. The camp sites were nice enough, though the Reservoir was so low it made it nearly impossible to do anything on the water. We did look at the Pavillion, and I don't think I would want to stay there. No trees or anything, it was pretty barren.

Perched at about 7,000 feet on the Wasatch Plateau just above Joes Valley Reservoir, Joes Valley Pavilion Group Site A occupies a wide, sagebrush-covered stretch of lakeshore where cottonwoods thinly line the water and aspens and pines dot the surrounding hillsides. The site is set up for groups listed as TOTAL CAMPSITES: 1 with SITE TYPE BREAKDOWN: - 1 Both RV Sites & Tent Sites and can accommodate as many as 100 people. A large pavilion provides shade only over the picnic tables; otherwise there is little natural shade in the immediate camping area. Vault toilets and water are available on site but there is no electricity. A broad gravel parking area gives ample room for vehicles, RVs and trailers, and the layout makes it straightforward to stage boats and gear for a day on the reservoir. Recreation centers on the reservoir and the network of trails nearby: anglers target cutthroat and rainbow trout, tiger muskie and trophy splake, while boaters use the nearby boat ramp on the eastern shore for water skiing, canoeing and fishing access. Land-based options include horseback riding, hiking and mountain biking on adjacent trails, plus renowned bouldering in Straight and Cottonwood Canyons and direct access to the Arapeen 370-mile OHV trail system at Reeder Trailhead. Nearby fisheries such as Grassy Lake, Pete's Hole and Potters Ponds lie within about 10 miles, and local points of interest include the Orange Olsen Guard Station rental and the Joes Valley Campground. Because seasonal openings, fees and reservation requirements can change, plan to contact the Manti-La Sal National Forest office for current availability, permit rules and any limits on group use before you go.
