Lake Canyon Recreation Area sits high on the Wasatch Plateau along Utah's Energy Loop, just south of Highway 31 about 18 miles east of Fairview. At roughly 9,000 feet the site occupies a broad mountain valley between Huntington and Cleveland reservoirs, with pockets of aspen and pine giving limited shade and meadows of grasses, sagebrush and summer wildflowers. Anglers come for the water: Huntington Reservoir tends to hold tiger and cutthroat trout while Cleveland is known for rainbow trout; both are quiet places for canoeing and kayaking, though note there are no boat ramps at those two reservoirs. If you want a ramp, Electric Lake is nearby and also offers boating and water skiing. Off-highway vehicle riders will find the Lake Canyon OHV Trail System here particularly attractive many miles of routes plus three dedicated beginner loops and the same landscape supports hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding on quieter tracks. The developed camping offering at Lake Canyon is small and primitive: the campground lists 15 total sites, and all 15 are configured to accommodate both RVs and tents. Facilities are minimal vault toilets are provided, but there is no potable water, electricity or garbage service, so you should bring your own water, carry a means to treat or filter water if needed, and plan to pack out all trash. Because the recreation area is high-elevation and accessed from Miller Flat Road (which connects Highway 31 to Joe's Valley Reservoir), check current road and weather conditions before you go and bring warm layers for cool nights. For fees, reservations and seasonal details consult the Manti-La Sal National Forest or Recreation.gov; the surrounding forest offers a broader range of activities (fishing, OHV trails, hiking, wildlife viewing and even winter sports) that are accessible from Lake Canyon.
