About

Forks of Huntington Campground sits at about 7,600 feet along Utah Highway 31, roughly 16 miles west of the town of Huntington on the Huntington Canyon National Scenic Byway. The site is small a total of three campsites: two single-family sites plus one large-group site that can hold up to 40 people and each site accommodates both RVs and tents. Pine trees shade the campsites and the Left Fork of Huntington Creek runs through the loop, joining the main Huntington Creek just below the campground; the Left Fork is a designated Blue Ribbon fishery with brown, cutthroat and rainbow trout. Facilities are basic: vault toilets are available, roads and parking spurs are graveled, and there is no garbage service, so visitors must carry out all trash. Recreational access is immediate: the 4-mile Left Fork of the Huntington National Recreation Trail begins in the campground (open to hikers and horseback riders), and the 10-mile Fish Creek Trail for hiking, biking and horseback riding starts nearby. Visitors commonly come for fishing, hunting, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, rock climbing and the scenic driving along the Energy Loop byway (which rises above 10,000 feet on parts of the route). The historic Stuart Guard Station Visitor Center is close at hand for exhibits and local information. Because the campground is very small and amenities are limited, check with the Forest Service or the visitor center before you go for current road conditions, fees, reservation rules and seasonal access.
