“Great spot! Feels secluded even though it's close to the road. We had 3 30+ ft trailers and could have fit at least two more. Lots of locations for tents. The stream runs right next to the site. We will be back!”

Chute Group Campground sits along the Huntington Canyon National Scenic Byway (Utah Highway 31) about 26 miles west of Huntington, Utah, at roughly 8,000 feet elevation. The site occupies a stretch of canyon beside Huntington Creek, where grassy meadows and bands of willow follow the water and large spruce provide shade through the campground. Huntington Creek is a Blue Ribbon fishery brown, cutthroat and rainbow trout are common while summer brings wildflowers, fall brings colorful foliage, and wildlife is frequently seen from the campsite. The byway here is part of the 86-mile Energy Loop and rises above 10,000 feet in places; nearby attractions include the historic Stuart Guard Station Visitor Center with Civilian Conservation Corps exhibits and period ranger-family displays that give context to the area's forest history. Facilities are deliberately simple: the campground offers one large group site (TOTAL CAMPSITES: 1) that can accommodate up to 50 people and is configured for both RVs and tents (SITE TYPE BREAKDOWN: 1 Both RV Sites & Tent Sites). The parking area is dirt, grassy pockets through the site provide tent space, and an accessible vault toilet is provided; there is no drinking water, no electricity, and no garbage removal, so you should bring your own water and plan to pack out trash. Close-in trail access and recreation are strong draws the 4-mile Left Fork of the Huntington National Recreation Trail and the 10-mile Fish Creek Trail are nearby (open to hikers and horseback riders; Fish Creek also allows biking), and the canyon supports mountain biking, hunting, horseback riding, rock climbing, scenic driving and fishing. For up-to-date information on fees, reservations, seasonal openings and road conditions, check with Manti-La Sal National Forest or the local ranger district before you go.
