What guests say

Verbatim from guest reviews on Recreation.gov ↗ (18 reviews, ★ 4.0). Not written or edited by us.

“Great campground, smaller than most we’ve stayed at whilst travelling and it made it so much more fun feeling a little bit more “out in the wild”. Clean toilets (no access to water though). No crowds or noise, just a great spot in nature and a perfect view of the stars. ”

katie g 5 · Aug 2025 · Recreation.gov

“Nice place! Clear view of other campers though. Not too private. Not a lot of sites, Will be shady when new trees get taller. Clean toilets. Pleasant surroundings! Will go back.”

About

Flat Canyon Campground sits at about 8,800 feet on the Wasatch Plateau, perched on a hillside above Highway 264 and roughly a mile from Electric Lake. The clearing here is more open than many high-elevation sites forest crews have removed hundreds of hazardous trees, leaving only several large spruce and an abundance of grasses and summer wildflowers rather than a dense canopy so expect more sun than shade. The site layout is small and simple: picnic tables, metal fire rings and vault toilets are provided. TOTAL CAMPSITES: 13, and SITE TYPE BREAKDOWN: 13 Both RV Sites & Tent Sites; among those sites is a group site that can accommodate up to 50 people while the remainder are single-family sites. Access is from Fairview to the west by following Highway 31 onto Highway 264 for a few miles, but because of the campground's elevation you should check current road and weather conditions before traveling. Recreation is straightforward and focused on the water and trails nearby: a short trail leads directly from the campground down to small Boulger Reservoir, and Electric Lake about a mile away offers boating and fishing opportunities. The surrounding Manti-La Sal National Forest also supports biking, hiking, horseback riding, wildlife viewing and, seasonally, winter sports, OHV use and hunting in designated areas; interpretive programs, cabins or fire-lookouts and a visitor center are features across the forest. Practical notes: the campground listing specifies picnic tables, fire rings and vault toilets but does not list water or utility hookups, so plan to arrive self-supplied; check with the Manti-La Sal National Forest office for the latest information on fees, reservations, seasonal openings and road conditions before your trip.
