“So many trees cut down that the sites are very open. Very windy in afternoon. Camp hosts take their job very serious. Track down everyone who drives in. Even sit by pay station.”
“There was great fishing. the host was great . Loved the huge fire pit. We enjoyed wondering the back roads next to the Sky lakes wilderness.”
“Camp host Tiffany is great keeps the place mellow and clean ”

Fourmile Lake Campground sits at the southern edge of the Sky Lakes Wilderness, just off Highway 140 near Lake of the Woods, and is a workmanlike, low-service base for people who come for the water and the backcountry rather than hookups. The campground is intentionally rustic: there are hand-pumped water sources, vault toilets, picnic tables, campfire rings and a boat ramp with improved trailer and passenger vehicle parking in the day-use area. It's built around equestrian use there are eight equestrian campsites in total, stock-loading facilities and horse corrals in the upper portion of the loop so horse packing and horse camping are easy to arrange here. Trails, including the Pacific Crest Trail within roughly two miles, and the expanse of the Sky Lakes Wilderness begin almost at the campground boundary, making the area popular for hiking, backpacking, climbing and wildlife and bird watching; on the lake itself you'll find boating, canoeing, kayaking and fishing opportunities. Practical details matter here: sites are first-come, first-served (there are no reserveable sites listed) and the campground's few amenities mean you should arrive prepared to be self-sufficient. There is a $7 extra vehicle fee for additional vehicles in the boat ramp/day-use parking; directional signage controls parking in those areas so please follow it. Note an important access restriction Fourmile Lake Campground was closed for the entire year 2022 for removal of damaged and dead trees affected by mountain pine beetle, and public access was not permitted until further notice confirm current opening status with Fremont-Winema National Forest before planning a trip. The surrounding forest is typical High Cascades country, with dense stands of Shasta red fir, western white pine, mountain hemlock, lodgepole pine, Engelmann spruce and whitebark pine, and an understory of huckleberry, manzanita and heather that frames day hikes and evening stargazing.
