What guests say

Verbatim from guest reviews on Recreation.gov ↗ (207 reviews, ★ 4.0). Not written or edited by us.

“Very peaceful with lots available sites. They had some space between other sites. Also a short drive/walk to the beach. ”

Anthony A 5 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“Very nice campground with many double sites to provide campers opportunity of joining together for meals, games and entertainment.”

John R 5 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“We had a great time at Waxmyrtle. It was pretty quiet for the end of the season. Nice campsites with good restrooms and water near the site. Close proximity to Florence was welcome to do some exploring. Also you are close to the Oregon Sand Dunes”

About

Waxmyrtle Campground sits about eight miles south of Florence inside the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, occupying a low-lying strip along the south shore of the Siltcoos River estuary. Sites are tucked among shore pine, huckleberry and coastal shrubs, and many are screened from neighbors by thick vegetation that gives a sense of privacy uncommon in larger beach campgrounds. The landscape around Waxmyrtle is dominated by wind-sculpted dunes that rise to the west and a tidal river system to the east, so campers can move easily between ocean beach access, a non-motorized open-dune area, and estuary shoreline. Waxmyrtle is the trailhead for the Waxmyrtle Trail, which follows the Siltcoos River to the Pacific, and is within easy reach of the Lagoon Trail and the Chief Tsiltcoos Trail; wildlife viewing at the estuary is a popular pastime. For people with off-highway vehicles, the Siltcoos OHV staging area sits less than a mile west on the Siltcoos Beach Access Road, and Siltcoos Lake nearby is known for bass, cutthroat and rainbow trout fishing. The campground has 54 campsites, all of which accommodate both RVs and tents, and is open seasonally from May 1 through September 30. Practical amenities include drinking water, a campground host, flush toilets, picnic tables, fire rings, recycling and trash collection, and paved parking aprons at each site. Reservations and fee details vary by season and site type, so campers should contact the ranger station at (541) 271-6000 for facility-specific information; note that sites not occupied within 24 hours of the arrival time are released as no-shows, so call the same number if you expect to arrive late. Access is straightforward from Florence: head south on Highway 101 and follow the Siltcoos Beach Access toward the river, where the campground entrance sits just across the bridge on the Siltcoos River's south shoreline.
