“We loved our trip to Tahkenitch campground. Our site was one of the most private since you had to walk up some stairs to your site from the parking spot. ”
“Enjoyed our time here! Loved the site we had way in the back. There wasn’t a camp host, so thankfully we didn’t have any issues. There’s only 1 bathroom at the beginning of the campground, but it was a quick walk. ”

Tahkenitch Campground sits beside Tahkenitch Lake within the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, about 8 miles north of Reedsport along Highway 101 (and roughly 14 miles south of Florence). The setting shifts between thick, low coastal shrub and stands of Douglas fir and shore pine, so many sites feel tucked away behind a dense understory while a handful are more open to sun and breeze. Three trailheads are right at the day-use area across the road Tahkenitch Dunes Trail, Threemile Lake Trail, and Threemile Lake South Trail which are largely sand routes good for scrambling and sightseeing; the Dunes Trail passes through about a mile of conifer forest, opens onto the dunes with ocean views, then finishes through a smaller band of shore pine at the Pacific. Tahkenitch Lake, literally a "lake of many fingers," covers 1,674 acres and is a focus of activity here; boaters and anglers can expect species such as cutthroat and steelhead trout, largemouth bass, and yellow perch, while the surrounding landscape supports wildlife from Roosevelt elk to bald eagles, pelicans and sea lions along the coast. The campground has 23 total campsites (10 that accommodate both RVs and tents and 13 tent-only sites) plus 1 host site, and facilities are straightforward: campfire rings, picnic tables, drinking water, and flush toilets, with paved parking aprons but no electrical hookups. All sites are currently available by reservation only; campsites not occupied within 24 hours of the arrival time are considered a no-show and will be released, so arriving late campers are encouraged to call the ranger station at (541) 271-6000 to advise staff. There is no on-site dump station the nearest waste station is at Honeyman State Park about 10 miles to the north so RV travelers should plan accordingly. On a broader scale, the Siuslaw National Forest offers a wide range of pursuits you can combine with a stay here, including hiking, boating, fishing, wildlife viewing and picnicking at the lake, and nearby options for off-highway vehicle riding, horseback trails, biking, interpretive programs and other water sports elsewhere in the forest.
