“Great campsite for smaller rigs. Bathrooms very clean. Host very helpful. Great trail through forest, over dunes leading to the ocean. Had a great 2 day stay. No cell coverage but that’s part of a great camping experience.”
“We originally booked site 20, but switched to 21. 20 is beautiful, but a little cramped and SO windy (late September). 21 is more spacious, protected from wind, and a lovely spot. The camp host was great and the bathrooms were well stocked. I recommend!”

Carter Lake Campground sits inside the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area of the Siuslaw National Forest, about 10 miles south of Florence along Highway 101. The campground fronts Carter Lake, a 28-acre body of water at roughly 100 feet elevation, and the shoreline sites are shaded by shore pine, Sitka spruce and Douglas fir with rhododendron hedges between campsites. The Carter Dunes Trailhead is inside the campground, and the region's wind-sculpted dunes which can rise to about 500 feet above sea level nearby and the Pacific coast are only a short drive away. On the water, canoeing, kayaking, swimming and small-boat fishing (rainbow trout are a common catch) are the main draws; hikers and paddlers can also use the campground as a base to explore nearby non-motorized routes such as Siltcoos Lake Trail and Threemile Creek Trail. If you're interested in motorized riding, the broader dunes area is known for off-highway vehicle trails, while the Siuslaw National Forest supports a wide range of outdoor activities including biking, wildlife viewing and interpretive programs. The campground has 21 sites in total: 18 sites are configured to accommodate both RVs and tents, and 3 are RV-only sites. Practical facilities include drinking water, flush toilets, paved parking aprons, and each site is equipped with a campfire pit, picnic table and trash service. Campers should note the site-occupancy policy: campsites not occupied within 24 hours of the reserved arrival time will be released as a "no show"; if you expect to arrive later than that, call the ranger station to let staff know. For fees, reservations, seasonal availability or any facility-specific questions, contact the Siuslaw National Forest office at (541) 271-6000.
