Union Creek Campground sits among towering old-growth fir and pine along the Upper Rogue River corridor in the Rogue River Siskiyou National Forest, about 18 miles west of Crater Lake National Park on the Crater Lake Highway (OR-62) and within reach of Medford. The site was laid out by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1934 and still shows that early campground footprint: 76 campsites in all, with 73 that accept both RVs and tents and three full-hookup RV sites clustered near the day-use parking area. Each campsite includes a picnic table and a metal fire ring, drinking water and vault toilets are dispersed through the loop, and firewood can be purchased from the campground host. There is no cell service at the campground; a public pay phone is located by the nearby Union Creek Resort store, which is within walking distance of most campsites and provides a convenience store, restaurant, ice cream and lodging. Be aware of vehicle constraints: sites are not recommended for trailers over 26 feet, and the access road that serves sites in the mid-to-upper loop (listed as sites 64 87) has large trees and tight curves that can make maneuvering difficult for some vehicles. The campground puts hikers and anglers directly into the river's geologic story. Union Creek and the Upper Rogue flow through the site and offer swimming and fishing access; interpretive trails nearby explain how the Rogue carved deep channels through Mazama pumice and lava, including the Rogue Gorge and the Natural Bridge where the river briefly runs underground. The Upper Rogue River Trail (hiker-only) follows the river closely for short, easy segments, and the Rogue Gorge trail system connects the campground to nearby day-use areas. Beyond the campground you'll find a wide range of regional recreation auto touring, biking, boating, horseback riding, winter sports and wildlife viewing among them and attractions such as Diamond Lake Resort, Lost Creek Lake, the Rogue-Umpqua Scenic Byway, National Falls, and Mount McLoughlin. For up-to-date information on reservations, fees and seasonal openings, or for facility-specific questions, call the Forest Service at (541) 560-3400; off-highway vehicles are allowed in designated areas.
