Poole Creek Campground sits at about 4,150 feet on the west shore of Lemolo Lake, just south of where Poole Creek feeds the reservoir. The campsites are shaded by lodgepole pine, mountain hemlock and Shasta red fir, and the lake the highest reservoir on the North Umpqua River frames long views of forested shoreline and steep volcanic ridges. On the water you'll find a concentrated set of activities: boating, kayaking, canoeing, water skiing and swimming (the lake is cold and refreshing), while anglers chase German brown trout, Eastern brook trout, rainbow trout and kokanee salmon in waters that plunge to about 100 feet in places. Hikers willing to tackle a steep descent can follow the Lemolo Falls Trail into North Umpqua Canyon to see Lemolo Falls drop roughly 150 feet, and a spur trail reaches the canyon bottom for a close-up view. The campground offers 61 total campsites; all 61 accommodate both RVs and tents, and there is one reservable group site (the group site is reached by turning in after the fee station). Sites include picnic tables, campfire rings and grills; vault toilets and drinking water are available, but there are no other hookups or services listed. All sites are reservation-only and reservations must be made two days in advance; note there is a $5 extra-vehicle fee per day that must be paid at the campground fee kiosk upon arrival. Poole Creek is reached from the general area east of Roseburg along OR-138, with a short drive on Forest Road 2610 to the Lemolo Lake shore. Beyond the lake, the Umpqua National Forest and the nearby Rogue Umpqua National Scenic Byway open up a wide range of other pursuits auto touring, biking, climbing, horseback riding, OHV routes, picnicking, and additional camping and cabin options so it's easy to combine lakeside days with longer explorations of waterfalls and river corridors.
