“We've been coming to this campsite for years. This year did not disappoint. There was not a camp host this year but luckily the other groups were very respectful of the quiet hours. ”
“No showers, No hot water in bathrooms. Inept management.”
“Shower was out of order. No toilet paper in the bathroom. Bathroom was never cleaned.”

Simax Group Camp sits on the northeast shore of Crescent Lake in Deschutes National Forest, where the lake's clear blue-green water and sandy beaches meet stands of lodgepole pine, mountain hemlock, fir and spruce. The site shares the naturally glaciated basin behind a moraine dam and sits in a landscape marked by nearby cinder cones, calderas and lava flows elements you'll notice hiking the local trails. From the campground you can step directly into water-centered recreation: Crescent Lake is popular for water skiing, sailing, windsurfing and swimming, and anglers find kokanee salmon, mackinaw (lake trout), rainbow and brown trout and mountain whitefish, with summer generally producing the best catches. A notable route that begins at the northeast end of Crescent Lake is the Fawn Lake Trail, a 4.7-mile one-way path that moves from a white fir and Douglas fir forest into lodgepole pine and connects to the Crater Butte Trail; farther afield, the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway and the Lava Lands Visitor Center in Bend expand options for auto touring, interpretive programs and landscape study. The campground is organized specifically for groups: there are four group sites in total, and each site accommodates both RVs and tents with paved roads and spurs to make vehicle access straightforward. A large picnic pavilion, accessible trail system linking the group sites to day-use areas and beaches, drinking water and flush toilets supply many of the comforts families and larger parties expect. Simax was purpose-built to be fully accessible the first site of its kind in the Northwest so pathways and facilities are designed for visitors with disabilities. Practical details: the campground is reached from Highway 58 by heading to the Crescent Lake Junction and following Forest Service Road 60 a few miles south onto the access roads; a nearby Crescent Lake resort provides a general store plus rentals and supplies. Note the reservation policy before you go: once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager will be able to modify your reservation.
