“We picked time when not a lot of campers, so was very pleasant. Quiet time to enjoy nature. not a lot of traffic,”
“It’s quiet and surreal. In the morning when the Sun shines upon the lake the fog is golden. We never saw this before. It left us beautiful memories. ”

Crescent Lake Campground sits on a hillside overlooking Crescent Lake in the eastern Cascade Range of Deschutes National Forest, reached from the town of Crescent by following County Road 61 west, then Highway 58 north and Forest Road 60 roughly an 18-mile drive that moves you out of town and up into a lodgepole pine forest mixed with mountain hemlock, fir and spruce. The site count is small enough to feel manageable: 43 total campsites, of which 41 are listed for both RVs and tents and 2 are tent-only; the listing does not specify utility hookups, so RV visitors should plan accordingly. This campground was the first in Deschutes National Forest to offer yurts on-site, making it an option for groups or campers who prefer a structured shelter, and a small lodge nearby provides a handful of conveniences a general store, a restaurant and boat rentals plus an on-site boat ramp for launching directly into the lake. The lake itself occupies a glacial basin and displays blue-green water and sandy beaches, and the area supports deer, native fish and migratory birds for casual wildlife viewing. Recreation at Crescent Lake changes with the seasons: late spring through early fall are prime for boating, fishing and swimming, with the Summit Lake Trail close by for hikers and mountain bikers who want views of Diamond Peak across the lake; that same trail is also open to snowmobiles in winter. When snow arrives the Crescent Lake Snowpark functions as a base for skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling, so winter visitors can still find active terrain nearby. Beyond the immediate shoreline and trail network, Crescent Lake is a convenient jumping-off point for exploring large tracts of Deschutes and adjacent Ochoco National Forests including miles of trails, rivers and volcanic features and regional attractions such as the Lava Lands Visitor Center, Newberry National Volcanic Monument and the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway. Practical note on reservations: fees and booking are managed through Recreation.gov, and once your reservation start date has begun neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager can modify that reservation, so plan changes need to be made before the reservation start date.
