Karen K ★ 3 · Oct 2023The site is stunning, there was plenty of space, and the road was surprisingly easy to navigate. I rented both sites, and was happy to have the privacy. The reason I give it only 3 stars is for the cost. Comparable sites had more amenities, like a pavilion and running water, or they were less expensive.

Contorta Point Group Camp sits on the south shore of Crescent Lake, a glacier-carved basin east of the Cascade crest where blue-green water laps small sandy beaches beneath stands of lodgepole pine, mountain hemlock, fir and spruce. The campground consists of two group sites (TOTAL CAMPSITES: 2), each designed to accommodate both RVs and tents; each site can handle roughly 10 vehicles, which allows the two sites to host two separate groups of about 40 people each or one larger group of up to 80. Roads and parking spurs are dirt, sites include picnic tables and vault toilets, and there is no drinking water or electrical hookup on site, so come prepared to be self-sufficient or plan to resupply at the nearby Crescent Lake resort (which has lodging, a general store and equipment rentals). Access is by following Forest Road 60 around Crescent Lake from Highway 58 at Crescent Lake Junction roughly a 9 10 mile drive then a short spur on Forest Road 280 to the campground entrance; because facilities are limited and vehicle access is on unpaved forest roads, larger RVs can camp here but should be prepared for primitive conditions. Sites are reservable; check Recreation.gov for fees and specific seasonal dates, and note that once your reservation start date has begun neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager can modify your reservation. The setting makes Contorta Point a good base for water-centered days and year-round mountain recreation. Crescent Lake is immediately available for boating, fishing and swimming, and the Summit Lake Trail popular with hikers and mountain bikers offers sweeping views across the lake toward Diamond Peak; in winter the same corridor supports skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling from the nearby Crescent Lake Snowpark, and the Summit Lake Trail is open to snowmobiling. Beyond the lake, the wider Deschutes National Forest and adjacent Ochoco National Forest offer nearly 2.5 million acres and roughly 1,600 miles of trails, with opportunities for auto touring (the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway runs through the area), horseback riding, OHV use on designated routes, wildlife viewing, and visits to regional sites such as the Lava Lands Visitor Center in Bend and Newberry National Volcanic Monument.
