Bucksaw Campground sits on the Grand River Arm of Harry S. Truman Lake in the rolling, hardwood-covered hills of western Missouri, occupying a peninsular stretch of relatively flat ground that opens onto long lake vistas. The campground contains 145 campsites in total; every site is configured to accommodate both RVs and tents, and sites are arranged in three loops Loop A (51 sites), Loop B (55 sites) and Loop C (39 sites). Campsites are generally well-shaded with broad grassy areas between sites, and the campground footprint includes a showerhouse (located near the A & B loops), flush and pit toilets, drinking water, laundry facilities and a dump station. A boat ramp, a sand beach and a playground are on-site for daytime recreation, and Bucksaw Point Marina sits adjacent to the park for fuel, launching support and other marina services. For directions, the campground is reached south of Highway 7 along Highway U follow the paved road and posted signs after you turn toward SE 803. The location is geared toward water-oriented recreation but offers a wide range of activities both inside the campground and across the Truman Lake area. A mile-long hiking trail begins across the road from the A & B loop showerhouse (ask the booth attendant for details), and anglers come specifically to this arm of Truman for crappie, largemouth bass, walleye, paddlefish and several species of catfish; the lake is a frequent stop for tournament fishing. Beyond fishing and boating, visitors will find opportunities for wildlife viewing (deer, turkey, hawks, ospreys and eagles are commonly seen), swimming, picnicking, biking, horseback riding, OHV use and other concession-based recreation plus a regional visitor center and powerplant exhibit for interpretive displays about the reservoir. Campsite types range from primitive spots to sites with utility hookups; check current fees, reservation policies and seasonal availability with the park or the Truman Lake visitor center before you go.
