Longshoal Park sits along the western shore of Harry S. Truman Lake amid the rolling hills and rocky bluffs of the Ozark Plateau, where mature oak, hickory and scattered cedar create a shaded campground edge and open views down to the water. The campground shares shoreline with a sandy beach that families use for swimming and shoreline play, and Longshoal Marina located inside the park provides boat services for anglers and recreational boaters. Fishing is a major draw here: Truman Reservoir supports crappie, several bass species, walleye, paddlefish and both blue and channel catfish, and the lake's remaining standing timber (about 8,800 acres) offers known habitats that tournament fishermen target. Wildlife viewing is reliable around camp and the visitor center area; expect to see whitetail deer, wild turkey and raptors such as ospreys and bald eagles, while the Harry S. Truman Visitor Center on Kaysinger Bluff (a short drive from Longshoal) presents exhibits on the dam and regional history and a high observation deck for watching waterfowl and the powerplant operations. The campground itself contains 95 sites in total, of which 94 are set up for both RVs and tents and 1 is tent-only, and it accommodates a range of camping styles: within that count are 44 sites with 50-amp electric and water hookups, 38 sites with 30-amp electric hookups, and 12 primitive sites for a more basic experience; the park also offers one reservable day-use group shelter. Day-to-day amenities center on boating, fishing and beach use at Longshoal, while the broader Truman Lake area provides broader recreation such as hiking, biking, horseback riding, off-highway-vehicle riding in designated areas, picnicking and other concession services plus privately owned lodging options around the lake. Longshoal lies roughly eight miles northwest of Warsaw along Highway 7 (follow signs for the park); for current fees, reservation windows, seasonal closures and specific on-site rules, check the Truman Lake park website or contact the Longshoal Marina or park office before you go.
