Steuben Lake Campsites consist of two individual sites on the west shore of 151-acre Steuben Lake in the Munising/Rapid River Manistique districts of Hiawatha National Forest. Both sites accommodate RVs and tents (TOTAL CAMPSITES: 2) and sit in a mixed hardwood and pine setting with a deliberately rustic character expect primitive toilets but no drinking water and only minimal amenities. Site 1 is a large wooded pad (75 x 75 ft), accessed from Forest Road 2554 and laid out to handle multiple families and trailers; the published maximum number for Site 1 is 24. Site 2 is a more open area (70 x 50 ft) atop a small hill reached via Forest Road 2662A, with a stairway down to the lake and a published maximum number of 16; note that the hill at Site 2 can make the beach and swim area hard to see from the campsite. Boat access is available: a back-in launch is located just before Site 2, and a more substantial launch on the lake's northwest corner (along FR 2662) can accommodate most fishing boats and trailers. Recreation at Steuben centers on water-based activities and simple shoreline enjoyment. The lake has been stocked with walleye and supports northern pike, largemouth bass, bluegill and perch; Michigan fishing licenses are required. Both sites have usable swimming areas, berry-picking opportunities nearby, and easy access to boating, paddling and shoreline fishing. Within a few minutes to a couple miles of the campsites you'll find trailheads for hiking, biking and horse trails, a fishing pier, and rental options (kayak/canoe, boat) plus bait, groceries, gas, ice and MDNR licenses in Steuben about two miles west on County Road 437. No fees, reservation windows or seasonal dates are provided here, so check current conditions, availability and any campground fees with the local ranger district before you go: call (906) 474-6442 for local information or (906) 387-2512 for general Hiawatha National Forest information.
