“Amazing private campsite on a beautiful lake. Northern Lights were unreal above us and over the lake on 10/10/24.”

Bass Lake Campsite sits on the western shore of Bass Lake, a relatively large 290-acre inland lake in the Manistique Ranger District of Hiawatha National Forest. The single site is a compact 35 ft by 50 ft clearing among hardwoods and pine and is suitable for one small family trailer or tent camping; Total campsites: 1 (1 Both RV Sites & Tent Sites). The site officially accommodates up to 8 people. Facilities are minimal: there is no drinking water and no toilets, so plan to pack in your water and pack out waste or use a vault toilet elsewhere. There is carry-in boat access for the campsite user only, but no back-in boat access at the site if you need a trailer launch, a developed public back-in boat launch sits on the east side of Bass Lake about four miles from the campsite (off FR2633). Recreation is centered on the lake and nearby trails: swimming at this site is considered poor, but the fishery is strong for northern pike, largemouth and smallmouth bass, and bluegills (Michigan fishing license required). Within minutes you'll find horse, bike and hiking trails, and within roughly a mile of several area sites there are bait shops, trailheads, a fishing pier, and kayak/canoe rentals; Steuben about three miles northeast on County Road 437 offers gas, groceries, boat rentals, ice and MDNR licenses. Access to the site is via County Road 437 and Forest Road 2792 roughly 22 27 miles north of Manistique (follow local forest roads to the western shore of Bass Lake); for current seasonal availability, fees, and reservation policies, contact local information at (906) 474-6442 or general information at (906) 387-2512.
