“This is a great remote campsite. There is plenty of room for a couple of families to set up camp and enjoy the lake.”
“Very large and quiet campsite (#1). We only saw 1 truck go by each. The turtles were nesting at the campsite so we had to be very watchful of them but it was really neat to see.”

Leg Lake sits within the Munising and Rapid River/Manistique Ranger Districts of Hiawatha National Forest on a 40-acre inland lake framed by hardwoods and pines. There are two campsites on the lake Site 1 on the west shore is a very large, semi-open area that can accommodate groups and trailers (maximum 24 people), while Site 2 on the east shore is a small, wooded family-sized site (maximum 8 people). Both locations are set up for tents and RVs; total campsites: 2, and both sites are listed as Both RV Sites & Tent Sites. Amenities are minimal: there is no drinking water anywhere on the lake, and only a primitive toilet at Site 1. The lake offers a swim area at Site 1 (the shoreline for swimming sits lower than the camp and is not visible from the site) and good fishing for northern pike, largemouth bass, black crappies and bluegill, with occasional yellow perch and bullheads. A back-in, unimproved boat access sits adjacent to Site 2 for day use only small boats and trailers are recommended and anglers must carry valid Michigan fishing licenses. This is a rustic, lightly developed location best suited to campers who bring their own water, supplies, and bear-safe storage. The immediate area has trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding within minutes of the sites, and services such as gas, groceries, bait, ice and deli items are available a couple of miles south in the Thunder Lake area; within roughly a mile you can also find trailheads, a fishing pier and kayak/canoe rentals. Because the campground is managed by Hiawatha National Forest, check current fees, reservation policies and seasonal access with local rangers before you go local information is available at (906) 474-6442 or for general information call (906) 387-2512.
