“What a beautiful little campground! Quiet, secluded, with a lovely trail down to the lake. It was a little bit of a trick to find it, because the sign pointing to the drive-in is missing. Look for the outhouse! I would stay here again.”

Little Bass Lake Campsites sit along an 84-acre inland lake rimmed by a mix of hardwoods and pines, offering a quietly rustic camping experience with only the basics in place. There are 5 total campsites each designated for both RV and tent use and every site has a maximum occupancy of 8 people. Facilities are minimal: a single primitive toilet serves the loop and there is no drinking water on site, so plan to carry in all potable water and supplies. Boat access is carry-in only, and the setting is best described as low-traffic and private, with the lake and shoreline taking center stage rather than developed campground amenities. Access is by way of County Road 437 off M-94 (about 22 miles north of Manistique), then onto Forest Roads that lead to the sites; check local road conditions before you go. The lake supports a varied fishery largemouth bass, bluegill, northern pike, black crappie and perch so anglers will find good opportunities (Michigan fishing licenses required). Swimming, berry picking and small-craft boating from the carry-in launch are common on Little Bass Lake, while nearby trailheads offer horse, mountain-bike and hiking routes within minutes of the campsites. Services such as gasoline, groceries, ice, MDNR licenses, bait and boat rentals are available in Steuben roughly five miles northeast on County Road 437, and other amenities (bait shops, a fishing pier, kayak/canoe rentals and general stores) can be found a short distance beyond the immediate site. For current fees, seasonal availability, road or trail conditions and other questions, contact the Munising/Rapid River/Manistique ranger districts at (906) 474-6442 or (906) 387-2512. Within the larger Hiawatha National Forest you'll also find opportunities for picnicking, wildlife viewing, interpretive programs and a range of water and trail activities if you want to extend your outings beyond the lake.
