Albert Moser Campground sits on the banks of the Cub River about nine miles from Preston, Idaho, at roughly 6,000 feet elevation. The compact site was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the late 1930s and still shows that era's simple forest-camp character: dense stands of cottonwood line the riverbank, giving summer shade and vivid yellow in autumn, while the river itself is a steady draw for anglers. The Cub River offers good trout fishing fly anglers target wild cutthroat and hatchery rainbow trout and the surrounding Cub River area is threaded with trails for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and off-highway vehicles. Beyond the immediate campground, the larger Caribou-Targhee National Forest provides additional options such as boating, hunting, wildlife viewing and winter sports, so the Moser site works well as a quiet base for a range of outdoor pursuits. The campground contains nine sites in total described on site as six single-family and three double-family sites and all nine accommodate both tents and RVs. Each campsite has a picnic table and a campfire ring, and several of the sites include metal grills; vault toilets and a drinking water source are provided. Roads and parking spurs throughout the campground are dirt, so expect an unpaved approach; a campground host is located about five miles up Cub River Road at Willow Flat Campground. Albert Moser is found just inside the Cache National Forest boundary on Forest Road 406 (approximately mile 7 on Cub River Road) east of U.S. 91; check with the Caribou-Targhee Forest office for current fees, reservation rules and seasonal closures before you go.
