Davis Canyon Campground sits along St. Charles Creek in a mixed stand of conifers and aspens in the southeast corner of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. The campsite is located in a scenic canyon a few miles west of the small community of St. Charles; reach it by taking U.S. Highway 89 to St. Charles and following Forest Road 412 about 6 miles west. The site consists of one accessible group campsite the campground's only numbered site which is made up of three adjoining smaller sites and can accommodate up to 40 people. Picnic tables and fire rings are provided at the group site, roads and parking spurs are gravel, and vault toilets are on site. The group campsite is listed as suitable for both RVs and tents; the listing does not specify hookups or potable water, so plan on a more self-contained experience and check with the Forest Service for current amenities, fees, reservation rules and seasonal access before you go. Recreation around Davis Canyon is varied: the creek beside the campground is part of a river fishery managed by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game and offers good fishing most of the year, while in-season big-game hunting and wildlife viewing are common in the forested hills. Trail access is nearby via the North Fork Trail, which connects to the Highline Trail #316 a 55-mile section of the National Trail System used by hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders and motorcyclists, so multi-use trail opportunities are readily available. A few miles from camp, Minnetonka Cave (one of only two developed caves in the forest) runs guided tours every 30 minutes daily from early June through Labor Day, and the Bear Lake National Wildlife Refuge and Bear Lake's summer events (including the Raspberry Days festival in early August) are within easy day-trip range. Check local road conditions on Forest Road 412 and with the Caribou-Targhee ranger district for seasonal closures or restrictions, especially if you're towing an RV or visiting outside summer months.
