About

Lakeview Campground sits at about 9,400 feet on the upper edge of Taylor Park Reservoir, under a mix of ponderosa and lodgepole pines with the broad, sage-dotted valley floor and the Sawatch Range visible across the water. The loop contains 45 single-family campsites in total: 37 sites set up for both RVs and tents, five RV-only sites and three tent-only sites. Each site includes a picnic table and campfire ring; several sites offer electric hookups and a subset of sites are accessible. Vault toilets, potable drinking water and trash collection are provided, and a boat ramp sits just below the campground for direct access to the reservoir. Because of the elevation and exposed alpine setting, prepare for cooler temperatures and rapidly changing weather and check current seasonal openings before you go. The reservoir and surrounding hills define most days here: Taylor Park Reservoir is the focal point for boating, fishing and swimming, with anglers targeting northern pike, kokanee salmon and several trout species; the marina near the campground rents fishing gear and pontoons. Beyond the water, the area is a gateway to a network of off-road and mountain-bike routes including Doctor Park, Taylor River and Taylor Vista trails, and the larger Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forest offers many other recreation options from hiking, wildlife viewing and hunting to OHV riding, winter sports and interpretive programs. Practical details such as fees, reservation policies and exact seasonal availability can change from year to year, so contact the local forest service office or the official recreation reservation site before traveling; Lakeview is most easily reached by driving north from Gunnison on Highway 135 to Almont, then following County Road 742 up to Taylor Park Reservoir (the campground entrance is on the right).
