Rosy Lane Campground sits along the banks of the Taylor River at about 8,600 feet, where a stand of lodgepole pine and aspen shades most of the single-family campsites. The loop contains 15 sites in total: 11 that can accommodate both RVs and tents and 4 designated for RVs. Every site is outfitted with a picnic table and a campfire ring; site 008 is the only site with a 15-amp electrical hookup and site 004 is accessible. To reach the campground from Gunnison, head north on Colorado Highway 135 to Almont, then follow Taylor Canyon Road northeast for about seven miles; the campground entrance is on the left. The river running past the campground makes Rosy Lane a practical base for low-key water recreation: a calm stretch of the Taylor River is reachable from the sites and is suitable for rafting and kayaking, while anglers can fish for rainbow and brook trout right from the river corridor. Hikers and backcountry seekers can use nearby trailheads Summerville and South Lottis to access the Fossil Ridge Wilderness, and a network of off-road and multiuse routes in the area includes Doctor Park Trail, Taylor River Trail and Taylor Vista Trail. About 12 miles away, Taylor Park Reservoir expands the recreational options with boating, fishing, swimming and a public boat ramp with rentals. Beyond what's immediately at Rosy Lane, the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forest offers many other activities biking, auto touring, wildlife viewing, interpretive programs, winter sports and more so plan your trip with current conditions and service information in hand.
