About

North Pines Campground sits at about 4,000 feet in the floor of Yosemite Valley, surrounded by the valley's signature granite walls and a mixed forest of California black oak, Ponderosa pine, incense-cedar, white fir and manzanita. The Merced River runs close enough for many campsites to feel the presence of water, and trailheads for Mirror Lake/Meadow (an easy paved two-mile round trip) and the strenuous 14 16 mile Half Dome route begin nearby. North Pines is one of three reservation campgrounds in the valley and contains 80 total campsites: 63 that accommodate both RVs and tents and 17 that are RV-only. Roads and parking spurs are paved, and each site includes a picnic table, fire ring and a food storage locker; flush toilets and drinking water are available within the loop. The Yosemite free shuttle stops near the campground entrance, and historic Curry Village where you'll find paid showers, a general store, restaurants and a tours and activities desk is only a short walk or shuttle ride away. Because Yosemite Valley is extremely popular, reservations require planning: campsites open up on the 15th of each month at 7:00 a.m. Pacific for dates up to five months out (for example, on February 15 you can book arrivals from June 15 July 14). For the 2024 season North Pines is using a one-time Early Access Lottery for the entire season; there will be no general on-sale availability for North Pines until February 15 after the lottery concludes. Login to your recreation.gov account (or create one) before the 7:00 a.m. release only logged-in users can add sites to their cart and note that the recreation.gov call center does not have extra inventory beyond what is posted online. On cancellations: if you cancel more than 48 hours before arrival you'll be charged a $10 transaction fee; within 48 hours you are charged $10 plus the first night's fee (one-night reservations do not incur the extra $10 but are nonrefundable); no-shows are assessed a $20 service fee plus loss of the first night's fee. From North Pines you have direct access to Yosemite activities such as hiking, climbing, biking, fishing and rafting on the Merced when flows permit, and driving or shuttling within one to two hours will take you to Glacier Point, Tuolumne Meadows, Hetch Hetchy and other valley and high-country highlights.
